Entertainment & Nightlife in Suriname

There are several nightclubs in Paramaribo, often attached to a hotel, with live music and dancing. There are also a number of discos and several cinemas, including a drive-in. In general, it is best to stick to the hotels unless accompanied by locals who know the reputations of other nightspots, in particular those out of the town centre. The Local Events Bulletin lists all current activities and is usually available in hotels.

Starzz, Suriname's biggest nightspot, is in the heart of Paramaribo close to hotels and cafés. Patrons meet at the ground floor Queen's Garden terrace bar for early evening sustenance before heading upstairs at around 11pm to the pulsating neon lights and beats of the place.

Also popular is the Havana Lounge. This intimate salsa joint wows punters with a mix of classics and the latest Latino sounds on Thursday's Noche Caliente (hot night). Havana Lounge is tucked away above the Spanhoek Passage.

Sidewalk Cafe 'T VAT which by day, is a charming breakfast and lunch joint, transforms into a buzzing after-dark hangout for an easy-going crowd. There is also live music during festivals. Sidewalk Cafe 'T VAT is located on Kleine Waterstraat.
